Robert Underwood and Thomas Crook found guilty of a burglary in the dwelling house of John Chapman in the parish of Bishops Stortford on 12th May 1740: stealing therefrom 12 striped linen handkerchiefs (valued at 10/-), 50 ells of Dowlas (valued at 50/-), 2 cheeses (valued at 5/-) and 5/- in money numbered. In All Saints, Hertford Parish Register appear as “ executed and buried 13th August.”
